How GPS Works Without an Internet Connection

The GPS receiver inside your smartphone is a passive radio antenna listening for satellite broadcasts from space.
By measuring signal transit times from 4+ satellites, your phone's hardware calculates your exact latitude, longitude, elevation, and velocity. No internet connection is needed for pure speed tracking.
