About Me & Online Speedometer
Hi, I'm Mokshith Naik, a developer from India. I built Online Speedometer because I was tired of GPS apps that demanded excessive permissions, forced app downloads, and bombarded users with intrusive pop-up ads. I wanted something simple: open a browser tab, see your speed instantly, and close it. No tracking, no accounts, no nonsense.
Why I Built This Tool
I've been building web tools and applications for the past 5 years. I noticed that most speedometer apps on mobile app stores require full storage access, contacts access, or background data tracking just to show your current speed.
This speedometer uses the standard HTML5 Geolocation API — all speed calculations happen directly on your device. Your location data never touches a server or external database. I personally tested it on cycling trips, car journeys, and train rides across India to make sure the readings match real-world speeds.

How It Works Under the Hood
When you grant location permission, your smartphone or computer's built-in GPS hardware calculates your geographical position multiple times per second. By measuring the distance traveled between these GPS updates, your browser calculates your exact velocity in kilometers per hour (km/h) or miles per hour (mph).
